Meet Caz via Barbara McKenzie

During my trip to South Africa last Nov/December I enjoyed the experience of exploring the history, culture and fashion of Mzanzi.

While browsing on IG for some inspiration I came across the page of Barbara McKenzie and was attracted to her designs. Before I returned to the UK I reached out to Kendi the designer to get a custom made dress which she delivered.

Queencaz takes Uzima 2014

I just rounded up a hectic day of exhibiting at the 2014 Uzima Expo event which took place at the Conway Hall in Holbourn, London.

My day kicked off with a 6:30 wake up, got dressed for a church service which wrapped up at 9am. With a quick change around and running after a bus while dragging a suitcase full of #QueencazColletion goodies, I managed to meet up with my sister and catch the Dlr train to Bank.

We arrived to Conway Hall in good time, set up was a breeze and by 12pm when doors were open to the public we were eager for kick off.

Overall the day was fun & yet another great chance to showcase the #QueencazCollection. I met some new inspirational clients as well as some familiar faces. Despite the hall feeling a bit like a sauna due to no air conditioning the event turn out was a success.

I would recommend this show to anyone both as an attendee and an exhibitor.

Kudos to the organizers (Sister E)

Until we meet again

Crotchet Braiding Review

image

Over the weekend I decided to install crotchet braids as part of a protective hair style.

This was my first attempt and after watching countless YouTube videos I finally styled upon a good tutorial by Fortheloveofmyfro

I went to the hair salon and equipped myself with the necessary hair and crotchet needle. The hair that I opted to use is the Model Model Glance Braid Water Wave, Kanekalon type as opposed to the Marley hair which was being used in the tutorial. The same technique still applies no matter the hair type.

Advise

If you want to try out this style I would suggest

  • to have plenty of time as the installing process can be time consuming. It took me about 3-4 hours – pretty good for a 1st attempt.
  • Have patience, by using wavy/curly hair when installing at times the hair gets tangled. It’s frustrating but get over it and just correct the error.
  • to have inspiring upbeat music to help the time pass by.
  • make sure you prep your hair underneath, wash deep condition the hair before flat twisting or cornrowing before installing.
  • You don’t have to be an expect at braiding or cornrowing your hair underneath just make sure that it is secure enough.
  • Make sure when you insert the crotchet tool into your hair the clasp is tightly closed to avoid it tagging on your own hair and the extensions

I will be perfecting this technique with different extentions…

QueenCaz does the African Market (review)

Just got in from exhibiting at the African Market

Apart from the rainy weather I enjoyed my time there

I have to say the visitors were a tough crowd in terms of buying however I managed to get a few sales

However I was pleased by the networking opportunity and the lovely atmosphere I received from other vendors

It was also a great way to see the variety of competition out there producing African inspired clothing #jheeze

With that said I decided to be a model for my own earrings

Uzima Expo Review- Queencaz Collection

Uzima a phrase meaning “springs of life, energetic, vitality, wholeness, healthiness and wellbeing”

Cornway Hall was definitely oozing with energetic African vibes yesterday.

From African drums, African & Caribbean food vendors (yum)

Jewellery, books, paintings, natural hair & skins care, poetry & loads more.

Not only did I attend but I was among one of the exhibitors along with Maw Maw London

promoting the African creativity within the community.

How exciting!! 😉

Indeed as this was my first time being at the exhibitor side of such an event

I was pleased and grateful to be even part of the movement let alone to have such

a welcoming presence from the customers regarding my earrings.

Overall it was a great experience and I made a new clientele list and promoted the

Queencaz Collection earrings.

The only thing I regret is that I didn’t really get the chance to take in the whole exhibition

Nevertheless I have walked away with new ideas and a stronger motivation to keep my talent growing.

Learning curve as they say !
