Protector or Predator

Eyes blindfolded
Hands tied back
I hear the voices of men
Evil men
who have put me in this situation
Forced
Pushed
Suffocated
I try to make out their words
But It’s all
gibberish

Kidnapped

The air is thin
Bitter to be honest
No saliva
Thirst
Where am I?
Why me?
Muscles tense

The sharp pain of the leather
Whip
Splash
touching my bare back
Ouch
Hamba intombi
You are next!!
He yells

Removing the mask from my eyes
His eyes meet mine
Soft, hazel with a hint of danger
The predator
Officer Bhofana
I recognize his face
No introduction necessary
Who would have thought?

“Officer of the year badge”
Strapped across his chest
Hero turned to the darkside
Corruption
Greed

Protector or Predator

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death….
